Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the purpose of the scholarship?

Developing and deploying market-based solutions to our most pressing environmental problems requires rigorous interdisciplinary scholarship. It is critical that we encourage and support young scholars to participate in and contribute to this process. The Journal of Environmental Investing Scholarship Program is meant to reward graduate students who write an original, rigorous, and interdisciplinary work of scholarship in a critical area of environmental investing.

What is the amount of scholarship?

The Program intends to present an annual scholarship of at least $3,500. The amount of the award is contingent upon the Program having adequate funding.

What other benefits accrue with the scholarship?

In addition to the actual scholarship, the winning manuscript is expected be published in a future issue of the Journal of Environmental Investing.

Who is eligible to apply for a scholarship?

To be eligible, an applicant must be an active graduate student currently enrolled in an accredited college/university. Special consideration to contributions from students in “emerging markets” as defined by the IFC.

What is the selection process?

Each applicant must submit a curriculum vitae, a 225-word abstract of his/her manuscript, a letter from his/her college or university attesting to the applicant’s academic status. The abstract will be blindly reviewed by the Program’s Selection Committee, which is comprised of scholars and practitioners in the various areas of environmental investing. If the abstract proves acceptable, the author will be invited to submit an original manuscript (no more than 5,000 excluding notes, references, and supporting materials) to the Program. All manuscripts will be blindly reviewed with the readers’ comments forwarded to the Program’s Selection Committee, which will then select the winner.

What is the deadline for submitting an abstract?

Deadline for applications is December 1 of each calendar year.

Is there a style sheet for the manuscript submission?

Only electronic submittals will be accepted. Authors should either send via email their work to the lead editor listed at the end of these instructions. Also, in email, please put in the subject line, “Journal of Environmental Investing Scholarship Submittal.” All manuscripts will be accepted in .pdf format.
